Si le jour 1B of WPT Baden was a game of cards it would be ‘Dealers Choice’. We really have had eight levels of everything you could imagine. We have had entrances that would have made the Beatles blush, we have had players who go by the names of Attila et FlippetyFlop, nous avons eu des joueurs habillés en clochards, des joueurs si habillés qu'ils pouvaient sectionner une artère et nous avons même eu une Royal Flush.

150-players walked through the doors making a combined field size of 254-players (24-people fired two barrels). That created a prize pool of $1,031,041 avec $271,258 reserved for the winner. If the tournament was to end today then that money would go to Kimmo Kurko, the Day 1A chip leader as he currently sits at the top of the pile with 149,700 chips. The Day 1B chip leaders were Senadin Cosic (135,800) & Daiele Scatragli (135,700)

Jetons un coup d’œil à quelques-uns des meilleurs moments de l’action d’aujourd’hui.

A quick search on the Hendon Mob database draws a blank when we type in the name of Martin Sturc. So we are not dealing with a professional live tournament player. A quick search on the PocketFive database also draws a blank. So we are not dealing with an online phenom either. So the chances are that Martin Sturc is a recreational player. It’s an even bigger probability that taking part in a World Poker Tour (WPT) is a big thing. So he must have been exhilarated when he found pocket aces in the first few minutes of action, and a partner willing to play for stacks holding pocket kings. But even pocket kings wins 17% of the time when up against aces. If you didn’t know that then just ask Sturc. The Kings rivering a flush, and Sturc was the first player eliminated and we hadn’t even gotten started.

Mais ce ne sont pas seulement les joueurs récréatifs qui souffraient de sortie prématurée; les pros y étaient aussi.

Lorsque Michael « The Grinder » Mizrachi a fait sa grande entrée, nous nous attendions à moitié à ce que Paul, John, Ringo et George valsent derrière lui. Son entourage était plus grand qu'une soirée sur le ring de Floyd Mayweather, et il y avait plus de lumières de caméra qu'un défilé de Milan.

Mizrachi – qui portait plus de patchs que Michael Schumacher – s'assit et se mit à suivre son chemin. Celui qui venait de devenir le premier joueur à remporter des titres WSOP sur trois continents était pressé.

"Il a rendu la table folle", a déclaré Sergey Vasilyev qui était assis à côté du membre du WPT Champions Club.

Then no sooner had the cameramen packed away their tripods, The Grinder was gone. Daniel Scatragli was the man sat holding his scalp, and it all happened in a three-bet pot with the money going into the middle on a flop of [Ks] [Td] [4s]. The Grinder was holding [Js] [Ts] for the draw and Scatragu was holding the mighty [Tx] [4x] for two-pair.  The spades stayed in the garden shed and The Grinder was gone.

Cette élimination a propulsé Daniel Scatragu en tête du classement, où Senadin Cosic et Bodo Sbrzesny l'ont rejoint. Vous vous souvenez peut-être que Sbrzesny était en bonne voie pour remporter le titre WPT la dernière fois que nous étions en Europe. C'était pendant le Festival de Poker de Prague qu'un Sbrzesny en forme s'est dirigé vers les six derniers avec un chip lead dominant. Mais un bluff inopportun contre Marcin Wydrowski a permis à notre équipe PartyPoker Pro de terminer troisième.

Sbrzesny found his chips in a three-way pot against Besim Hot and Leon Louis. Two individuals who have found their own unique ways of winning money. Hot has incredibly won nearly $1 million playing $10k high rollers exclusively in the Czech Republic, including our very own in December. Leon Louis is known online as Flippetyflop and is one of the world’s greatest HU Turbo SNG players. But the German doesn’t care about all that old codswallop.  He got his money in good and came out of the other side with 80,000 chips. Vous pouvez tout lire sur la main ici.

Hats off to the Casino Baden in terms of the way they are looking after both the players and the media. The food is out of this world and all of the soft drinks are free of charge. So when we resumed after the break the bellies of most of the players were a hell of a lot wider than they were before. That is everyone except Artem Litvinov, who seemingly just vanished. The man responsible for munching away at the Russian’s 180BB stack was Attila Zab, but it did take him two bites – well 180BB is quite a lot of chips to get through in one sitting. Nous avons également perdu Leon « FlippetyFlop » Louis juste après le dîner. Ce n’est pas souvent que l’on voit Louis hors de ses quatre murs alors qu’il est occupé à essayer de gagner un million de dollars. Ne le sommes-nous pas tous, me direz-vous ? Mais quand Louis dit qu'il va gagner un million de dollars en un an, ce garçon le pense vraiment. Louis est l’un des plus grands joueurs de sit n go en heads-up au monde, mais, comme Bodo Sbrzesny l’a si éloquemment dit dans une interview plus tôt : « Ce n’est pas du heads-up ». Louis ne s'est jamais vraiment remis de l'action à trois qui a vu Sbrzesny construire son stack plus tôt dans la journée. Sa main de sortie est venue des mains de l'impressionnant Italien Paolo Compagno qui a touché une quinte en même temps que Louis a touché un set. 

Nous avions notre collection habituelle de casquettes de baseball, de lunettes de soleil et de jeans qui montraient à chacun la couleur des sous-vêtements des gens, mais il y avait un homme qui se démarquait de tous les autres. Marcel Luske avait l'air impeccable. Je jure qu’il n’y avait pas un cheveu déplacé sur cet homme. On aurait dit qu'il avait été repassé avec son costume complet. Il était en pleine forme, mais il n’a tout simplement pas trouvé le terrain de jeu quand il en avait besoin. Nous l'avons finalement perdu dans le dernier niveau de jeu. Quand sa disparition est survenue, ce sont deux mains qui ont fait les dégâts. Le premier était contre Tom Carpenter, ce qui peut être lire ici, et le dernier clou dans le cercueil contre Andras Kovacs qui peut être lire ici.

Andras Kovacs et Mahir Cakmak récupèrent leurs jetons préflop dans l'un des nombreux coinflips du tournoi de poker. Kovacs détient [Js][Jd] et devance de peu les [Ad][Ks] de Cakmak.

Cakmak takes the lead on a [Ah][8h][7h] flop. The [3h] turn prompts Kovacs to ask the dealer for another heart to split the pot, but although the river is red it is the [8d] and Kovacs fails to make it to Day 2.

Salman Behbehani vient d'être éliminé alors que le directeur du tournoi annonce les cinq dernières mains de la soirée.

Il s'ouvre à 1,300, Artur Wasek three-bets to 4,100, Alexander Stark moves all in for around 30,000, Behbehani calls for 25,000 and Wasek folds ace-king face up. Behbehani shows pocket queens, Stark shows pocket aces and five community cards later Behbehani was out.

Bodo Sbrzesny vient de frapper le jackpot over on table 3, busting out Christian Golob with a royal flush.

Sbrzesny opened to 1,000 preflop and picks up three callers. The flop falls [Ah][Kh][3c] and the players check to Sbrzesny, who bets 2,200. Only Golob calls. The turn brings the [Jh] into play and it ignites a fire under the players.

Les paris de Sbrzesny 3,600 only to see Golob raise to 12,000. Sbrzesny makes it 26,000 play then calls when Golob moves all in on him.

Golob turns over [3d][3s] for bottom set and is drawing completely dead as Sbrzesny holds [Qh][Th] for the royal flush! The [Ad] on the river improves Golob to a full house but it is not enough to save him from elimination.

Sbrzensy is up to 114,000 chips.

Alexander Lakhov, Vili Ronkainen, Gad Morgenstern, David Gutierrez and Franco Cantarella have all fired duds at WPT Baden and will not we winning the first prize of $271,258.

L'homme le mieux habillé du poker est sorti. L'intrépide journaliste Yorkypuds vient de vous informer que Tom Carpenter avait paralysé Marcel Luske dans une main que vous pouvez trouver ici. Nous pouvons désormais vous apporter des nouvelles de sa sortie.

He put is last few chips into the middle holding [Qh] [9d] and was called by Andras Kovacs holding [As] [8s]. The board gave Kovacs top pair on the flop and the Flying Dutchman couldn’t recover. He pulled his well-ironed suit jacket from his chair, wished everyone well and wandered into the night.

Kovacs ~ 38,000

Marcel Luske ouvre limp depuis la position médiane, Mahir Cakmak suit au bouton, Tomaz Kogovsek complète sa petite blind et Tom Carpenter voit un flop gratuit depuis la grosse blind.

The four players see the flop come down [Jh][5d][5c]. Kogovsek checks, Carpenter checks, Luske leads for 1,500 and both Cakmak and Kogovsek fold. Carpenter, however, check-raises to 3,800 but Luske snap-calls.

The turn is the [Th] and Carpenter keeps to his story and bets out 5,200 chips. Again, Luske beats him into the pot with a call. The river is the [9s] and Carpenter picks up his remaining chips nd moves all in. The amount to call is 20,975, and call is exactly what Luske does.

“Five,” says Carpenter as he turns over [5[s][3d] for trip fives. Luske shows the [Jd] and is left with just 775 chips. 

Sur un tableau de lecture [6c][Jd][7[s][3d][Ad] Paule Berende checks from the cutoff to Jurgen Wenigwieser on the button. Wenigwieser bets 7,200 and Berende goes deep into the tank. Berende is considering all of his options, trying to figure out what sort of hand Wenigweiser could be representing.

Eventually, after around two minutes of deliberating, Berende folds and shows the [Ac]. Wenigwieser proudly turns over [Qs][9h] for complete air. Nice hand.

Remigio Bongi vient de doubler sa mise face à Martin Sturc. Les jetons étaient déjà au milieu de la table lorsque nous sommes arrivés à leur table, Bongi était le joueur all-in mais il était en bonne forme avec son [Qc][Qh] dominant le [9c][9d] de Sturc.

Les dames sont restées devant alors que le tableau s'épuisait [As][Ac][6c][Th][Jh], doublant Bongi jusqu'à 24,000.

Laszlo Telek, Robert Gorodetsky, Derek Murray, Corc Ercin, Mazlum Acar, Alex Prendes et Gerald Karlic ont tous été bannis de Baden.

Sur un flop qui lit [Qc][Td][3h] Tom Carpenter check depuis le siège du small blind, Andre Mayr tire un 2,000 mise depuis le siège de la grosse blinde et cela force Andras Kovacs à se coucher. L'action est de retour sur Carpenter et il fait un 5,000 chips et annonce son intention de relancer à 4,800Mayr ne semble pas découragé par cette augmentation et met rapidement en place les jetons d'appel.

Le [6s] est notre carte de tour et Carpenter maintient l'agression en fixant le prix à jouer 6,500Mayr reste assis immobile pendant quelques instants avant de taper sur la table et de renvoyer ses cartes au croupier.

Martin Sturc is in middle position and he gets the betting started with a raise to 1,150. The next couple of players do not want to continue in the hand, but Franco Cantarella calls from the cutoff. Next to act is Simon Deadman who has the button and he wastes no time in moving all in for what turns out to be 13,200. Sturc folds but Cantarella says something inaudible to Deadman before flashing the [5c] at him and letting his hand go.

C'était un petit coup de pouce sympa pour Deadman qui a eu du mal à dépasser le stack de départ aujourd'hui.

Salman Behbehani est en position médiane et est le premier à agir. Ce garçon ne boitera jamais ouvertement, pas dans un million d'années ! Il relance à 1,075 et Artur Wasek, à sa gauche, suit immédiatement. L'action se couche alors sur Zoltan Szabo en big blind et il suit également.

Szabo vérifie ensuite le [Jd][5d][4d] flop, Behbehani maintient l'agressivité avec un 1,400 pariez et Wasek et Szabo lâchent tous deux leurs mains.

Behbehani s'affaire à réempiler ses jetons, une tâche difficile étant donné qu'il reçoit actuellement un massage vigoureux. 

Ryan O’Donnell sees the action fold around to him in the hijack and he does what any poker player worth their salt would and raises to 900. Next to act, in the cutoff, is Mickey Petersen and he three-bets to 1,900. The button and small blind fold but Peter Nagy likes his cards and he cold calls the three-bet. O’Donnell then removes his initial raise and replaces it with four blue 1,000 jetons de dénomination.

Petersen réfléchit à ses options avant de se coucher. Nagy demande confirmation au croupier quant au montant de la relance d'O'Donnell avant de suivre.

David Breitfuss, Erich Kollman, Corneliu Cretu, Ben Maya, Philipp Hochhuth, Jurgen Cheng, Erik Igaz, Nikolaus Kovacs, Szabolcs Mayer, Branko Tokic et Paul Testud s'inscrivent tous pour skier sur les pistes demain.

Nous ne savons pas vraiment ce qui nous surprend le plus : le fait que Ben Carpenter soit absent ou le fait qu'il boive du thé !

Carpenter nous a dit qu'il avait [Kc] [Qx] contre un joueur qui, selon lui, n'était pas prêt à jouer avec les grands, pour ainsi dire. Le flop était [Qc] [Qx] [4c], l'adversaire de Carpenter a misé gros et il a juste flatté. Le tournant était le [8c] et la même action s'ensuivit. La rivière était la [9c] et avec seulement 8,000 derrière Carpenter a appelé le all-in de son adversaire avec la couleur au roi, pour se voir montrer la quinte flush : [Jc] [Tc].

Earl Grey, ça vous tente ?

Attila Zab vient de démanteler à lui seul Artem Litvinov pour envoyer le Russe au niveau six.

This was Litvinov’s second bullet after finding elimination early on Day 1A. In truth, the Russian was coasting on a stack of around 180BB every time we walked past the table. But in the time it takes to order a strawberry milkshake Litvinov was gone. Up in a puff of smoke.

L'homme assis avec une pile de jetons ressemblant à la Grande Muraille de Chine était Attila Zab. Gerald Brandlmayer a très gentiment raconté l'histoire.

« Il a été éliminé en deux pots against Seat Nine {Zab}. In the first hand Seat Nine was holding ace-queen. There was an queen on the turn and an ace on the river. Seat Eight {Litvinov} moved all-in and then mucked his cards,” Said Brandlmayer, “Then they both got it in on a [7x] [3c] [2c] flop. Seat Eight was holding a flush draw with a seven in his hand, and Seat Nine held the nut flush draw. The club arrived immediately on the turn and Seat Eight was out.”

Zab becomes the chip leader with 155,000 chips.

Paolo Compagno has just dumped Leon Louis out of the competition. We catch the action at the death knell. The board is showing [Jd] [5d] [3h][Ah] [Td] and there are three players involved in the hand. Paolo Compagno checks, Niki Kovacs bets 1,100 and Leon Louis moves all-in for 11,250. The action is now on Compagno – who is the meat in the sandwich – and he decides to call. Kovacs gesticulates wildly before folding what he says is [Ks] [Qs], for the straight. Louis shows pocket tens for the rivered set and Compagno shows [Kh] [Qh] for the straight.

Louis' face is an absolute picture.

Mario Adinolfi s'est inscrit au Main Event du WPT Baden il y a quelques instants mais il vient de sortir dans l'une des premières mains qu'il a jouées !

Nous avons rejoint sa table pour voir Adinolfi faire tapis sur la rivière d'un [6d][4[s][7s][Kd][Td] pour environ 16,000 et Heinrich Leuizinger, qui s'appelle brusquement depuis quelques sièges plus loin.

Adinolfi a retourné [Jd][5d] pour une couleur valet, mais sa main a été écrasée par le [Ad][Qd] de son adversaire. Adinolfi fait la marche de la honte quelques minutes seulement après avoir dépensé €3,300 pour concourir ici à Baden. Il a probablement connu des jours meilleurs dans sa carrière de poker !

Senadin Cosic est assis derrière plusieurs piles de jetons qui, si vous additionnez leur valeur nette totale 135,000. Ce montant fait de lui notre chip leader à l'heure actuelle, même s'il doit encore ajouter un autre 20,000 s'il veut mener le tournoi au classement général.

Nous avons demandé comment Cosic avait construit un tapis aussi important et, selon ses compagnons de table, il attrapait des cartes et frappait des flops, notamment en faisant craquer les rois du Dr Beiyan Yu avec le modeste cinq-quatre !
