Soyons réalistes, le poker est avant tout une question d'argent.
The Season XI World Poker Tour (WPT) stop in Baden generated a main event prize pool of over $1 million, and Day Three was the day to fracture that million into chunks. It was time for the wage slips to be handed out.
But not everyone was going to receive payment for ‘services rendered’. Of the 44-players who were still left in this great tournament, only 27 of them would qualify. The employees at the bottom of the pay scale would receive $8,634, but if you worked hard enough - and were lucky enough - then a few promotions could take you all the way to the top, where you could earn $271,258.
De celles 44-players, 20 are still in contention to win that top prize. They include dignitaries such as Marvin Rettenmaier, Bodo Sbrzesny, Martin Staszko & Paul Berende but the man they are all chasing is Vladimir Bozinovic who won the ‘employee of the day’ award finishing with 975,000 chips.
Les bords sont minces dans ce jeu. Voyons qui a été coupé et qui portait une cotte de mailles.
It didn’t take long for the first elimination. That being said, it never does under these circumstances. The giant Russian, Andrey Shatilov, getting terribly unlucky under the spotlight, after his [Ah] [3d] was fried on fourth-street by Ziegelbecker’s [Ac] [2d]. Le [2s] arriving right on time for the Austrian.
38-players remained after the end of the first level.
The biggest story of the level was a tale of woe. Vishal Pundjabi started the day second in chips, just 200 chips behind the overnight chip leader Bodo Sbrzesny. That means Pundjabi had the unenviable task of starting the day with 133BB – now that’s not bad by anyone’s standard. Unfortunately, by the time the level had finished there were only 31-players left and Pundjabi was not amongst them. You can read his exit hand ici.
Niveau 17 was a case of the hare and the tortoise – except there were no hares anywhere to be seen. The pressure and tension of the looming money bubble causing most people to freeze. {Very} Slowly but surely we ate through the time, and Kara Scott was one of the casualties as we finally reached the bubble.
The PartyPoker Team Pro got it in good against Lauri Pesonen AQ>J8, but a Jack on the flop causing irreparable damage to the Scott stack. She doubled up once before finally being eliminated by Johnny Hansen. You can read about the finer details of the hands both ici et ici.
The players headed to the dinner break with the bubble still not resolved and Paul Berende in the lead with 710,000 chips.
The money bubble eventually burst in Level 18. No, that’s not true, it exploded. Stefan Rapp moved his last 44,000 into the middle, over a Stjepan Jokic raise, and the Austrian made the call. It was pocket sevens for Rapp and pocket nines for Jokic. The flop [Ac] [8c] [7c] gave Rapp a set, but a cruel [9c] on the river handed Jokic a bigger set, and Rapp was the final player NOT to get paid. Now that’s what you call a Bad Rapp.
Niveau 18 was also the setting for the most intriguing hand of the competition, and it proved that there is no loyalty between stable mates when you reach the business end of competition. The hand involved Bodo Sbrzesny, Marvin Rettenmaier and a rather tasty cold five-bet, which you can read about ici.
The final level of play so the eliminations of Lukasz Wasek, Julian Herold, Daniel Scatragli and Johnny Hansen leaving us with our final 20-joueurs.
