L'INFLUENCE FRANÇAISE EN ROUMANIE RESTE FORTE !
GUILLAUME DARCOURT REMPORTE LE WPT BUCAREST, SPONSORITÉ PAR GAMEBOOKERS.COM
37-year-old French businessman Guillaume Darcourt is the winner of the inaugural Tournée mondiale du poker événement en Roumanie! Darcourt, qui joue au poker depuis trois ans et réside à Lausanne, en Suisse, a remporté €125,846 and a $25,000 seat at the prestigious WPT World Championship at the Bellagio.
There were a total of 161 players taking part in the €3000 + €300 Main Event. The prizepool paid 18 places with a total prize pool of €449,450. Darcourt eventually emerged triumphant after a grueling heads-up with German online ace Simon "Schnibl0r" Münz. Darcourt had a strong supporting contingent in the crowd, including wife Caroline, while Munz was being railed online by thousands of players through his position as a prominent member of PokerStrategy.com.
“This win is amazing,” said Darcourt, who is originally from Paris. “I was eighth in chips after the first day and chip leader at the end of day two. I was running really good on day three too but started to slip away. One hand changed the whole tournament for me. I was up against AA with A9 but hit a straight. I will always remember that hand.”
Darcourt gave a fantastic lesson in power poker and runner-up Munz acknowledged the strengths of the Frenchman. “Darcourt deserved to win. I would have loved to have really attacked him in the heads-up but he just wouldn’t fold and I didn’t have enough chips,” said Simon. Munz went on to the final table as chip leader - won many admirers and banked his best live tournament finish. Munz kept grinding his way back into the heads-up but eventually his J7 offsuit got outflopped by the Q9 of Darcourt. Two pair on the flop sealed the win for the Frenchman.
“Winning the $25,000 WPT World Championship seat is incredible,” said Darcourt. “I have a full tournament schedule but to get a seat to such a prestigious tournament is wonderful.” Darcourt, who has three children aged 2, 7 et le 10 now plans to spend some time relaxing at home. “The last three months have been three of the best of my life,” he added.
First out on the six handed final table was the Romanian contingent with Eva Iosif and Abdula Atila finishing sixth and fifth. Next to go was Panama’s Jose De La Guardia followed by the USA’s Joseph Ebanks from the United States. Ebanks found his QJ outgunned by Darcourt’s AJ. This left Darcourt with almost a 3:1 chip lead over Munz.
