- One thing I'm really enjoying about this event is the innocence of the amateur players. I just witnessed an all-in hand where [QhTh] squared off with [9h5h]. A ten came on the flop and the turn left 9-5 no outs. For someone like me, the hand was effectively over, but when a second ten came on the river, the entire table erupted with a loud groan, as if an archer's arrow had just split another for a super-bullseye.
- I just congratulated Michael Bunin. Jen Newell has been writing about him a lot in the live updates section, so look there for more info on his work. Michael got eliminated by Miami John Cernuto when his pocket aces were cracked by John's K-To after getting all-in on the preflop.
We all get subjected to beats like this once in a while and they're never easy to swallow. What I told Michael was that you aren't truly a tournament player until you've been eliminated after getting all-in with aces preflop. It's one of those it's-funny-because-it's-true things. He appreciated the sentiment and we had a nice chat afterwards.
